The Adoption Process
Columbus Pet Rescue is a volunteer-run rescue group in Columbus, Ohio. As a foster-based rescue, our volunteers take animals into their homes and care for them until they are adopted. We work incredibly hard to rescue and rehabilitate these animals, and it is important to us that they are placed in safe and loving forever homes. Below is an outline of our adoption process, followed by a preview of our adoption application and links to download it.
1. Finding The Right Animal

To begin the adoption search, we recommend looking through our website for animals that might fit what you are looking for. You can also view animals in our group on Petfinder and Adopt-a-Pet by following the links provided under the "Available Pets" tab. Because we do not have a shelter site and experience regular turnover, there are often many new animals in the rescue that are not yet shown online. Visit Us At PetSmart
As an official PetSmart Charity, we work closely with the local PetSmart store in Grove City to find homes for our animals. We have cats where you can go to meet them anytime during regular store hours. The cats are checked on by our volunteers daily and are rotated regularly so no animal spends too much time in a cage. We do not keep dogs at PetSmart but will bring them to adoption events and appointments. Visiting the Grove City PetSmart location is a great way to meet some of our animals at your own convenience.
Attend An Adoption Event
We hold adoption events at the PetSmart store in Grove City on a regular basis. Upcoming adoption events are often listed on our home page calendar. These events are typically held on Sundays from 1-4pm.
2. Meeting The Animal(s)
As a foster-based rescue, we are frequently asked when and how you can meet the animal(s) you are interested in adopting. If you are interested in a cat that is being kept at the Grove City PetSmart store, you are welcome to visit them at any time during regular store hours. For all other animals, we are happy to schedule appointments with approved applicants to meet at the Grove City PetSmart location at a time that works for both the foster and the applicant(s). Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate appointments for the large number of inquiries we receive and thus, we do require that prior to scheduling an appointment you submit an adoption application for approval.
3. Submit The Adoption Application
Filling out the adoption application is the most important step in the adoption process. Out of fairness, we do our adoptions on a first-come, first-serve basis for approved applicants only. Approved applications also open the door to scheduling appointments to meet the animal, as explained above. Completion of this application is non-binding, should you decide you do not wish to go through with adoption. If you are considering adoption but have not yet made up your mind, we encourage you to submit an application anyway rather than risk missing the opportunity to adopt by applying late.

If you believe you have found an animal you wish to adopt, please download and complete the adoption application/agreement. Downloadable files can be found at the bottom of this page. Instructions for submitting your application are also included below. *You may also complete a paper copy of the application at a PetSmart store in Grove City.

To submit an application, please download and complete the adoption application and submit it to our email at [email protected]. You may fill in your information by hand and scan in the completed copy, or simply enter the information on the computer (if approved, you will be required to provide your signature on the day of the adoption).
